The WWE women’s division was turned upside just two weeks after the biggest WrestleMania of all time, as the Women’s World Champion, Rhea Ripley, was forced to vacate her title after over a year due to picking up an ill-timed injury, reportedly coming in a backstage brawl segment with Liv Morgan, per a report from Fightful Select. It isn’t all doom and gloom though, as there are ways that WWE can spin positives out of this, especially for Liv Morgan. Morgan is someone who has potential and a level of success already, but there are higher levels to reach, and this injury to Ripley is exactly what she needs to become a top star in WWE.

At the start of 2022, it felt as though Liv Morgan was WWE’s next breakout female star, as she gained a lot of popularity in a feud with Becky Lynch. Due to WWE’s ongoing plans of a feud between Lynch and Bianca Belair, Morgan failed to win the RAW Women’s Championship, and she unfortunately cooled off for several months. She was granted some glory as the summer began though, winning the Money in the Bank briefcase and cashing it in on the very same night, defeating Ronda Rousey to win the SmackDown Women’s Championship. However, this wasn’t all entirely positive.

Following on from WrestleMania, the “Liv Morgan Revenge Tour” continued as she targeted the woman that put her on the shelf for half a year, Rhea Ripley. Entering a feud with the biggest female star in WWE was a great way to get Morgan back into the fold and build her into a star, but during the segment in which Ripley was thrown into a wall, she suffered an arm injury, ruling her out of action for several months and forcing her to vacate the Women’s World Championship.

Finally, her character has some direction, defined traits, and a reason for fans to get invested. The crowd wants to see Morgan suffer and pay for what she has done, and nobody can wait for Rhea Ripley to come back and enact revenge. With Ripley not being present, Morgan should take up the mantle as the Women’s World Champion. Having her come out with the title that Ripley lost, reminding fans of the fact that she injured Ripley, will help to build Morgan into a star. WWE needs to go full throttle into this, even if it does somewhat copy some of the storyline beats used in the McIntyre and Punk story.

Drew McIntyre’s WWE heel turn was a logical one, but his obsession with CM Punk has him turning into the person he despises.
WWE have made mistakes with the booking of Morgan in the past, but they cannot do the same again. If she does become champion, then she needs to be booked as a main event name, beat defined stars such as Becky Lynch (with whom she has unfinished business), and lead the division. This unfortunate circumstance can be used to everyone’s advantage, but mostly to Morgan, who has needed something like this to take her to the next level that has been out of reach thus far in her WWE career.
