Like many of his successful predecessors like Randy Orton and John Cena, Cody Rhodes also began his WWE career by training in the company’s developmental territory Ohio Valley Wrestling. He had a successful run in OVW between 2006 and 2007 and went on to capture the OVW Heavyweight Championship and Television Championship and also teamed up with Shawn Spears to capture the Tag Team Championship.

The OVW experience really helped Cody Rhodes develop as a wrestler, and he replicated the same success in his early days on the WWE main roster by capturing the World Tag Team Championship with Hardcore Holly.

Cody Rhodes competed in amateur wrestling when he attended Lassiter High School in Georgia. He had a successful high school wrestling career and went on to get placed in the sixth position in the 171 lbs division as a sophomore.

He then won the Georgia state tournament as a junior in 2003 and repeated the same success in his senior year as well. He also planned to wrestle at the collegiate level but instead chose to pursue a career in professional wrestling and follow in the footsteps of his father.
