Nikita Tszyu vs Danilo Creati weigh-in, Aussie star turns up late, ‘walking his dogs’

Nikita Tszyu made weight for his fight against Italian Danilo Creati on Wednesday, although there was apparently some uncertainty over his attendance at the weigh-in.

Creati comfortably made the super welterweight limit of 70kg, tipping the scales at 69.68kg. He said he’d even enjoyed a meal the night before.

Yet when Tszyu’s name was called to the stage, he was nowhere to be seen. It was revealed he was running late and needed more time to cut weight, with No Limit CEO George Rose confirming Tszyu was still one kilogram over the limit on Tuesday morning.

“It’s not ideal. All we’re asking is if he can get on the scales,” Creati’s coach Tony Del Vecchio said.

“If he doesn’t make the weight that’s fine, he’s still got his two hours, but we want him on the scales now.”

Eventually, Tszyu, sporting a pair of black sunglasses, made his way to the stage and weighed in at 69.82kg, silencing the murmurs that he was struggling to get down to the legal weight.

“I was just walking my dogs,” Tszyu joked, before confirming he had run into traffic on the way to the weigh-in.

“I lost track of time. Sorry, guys.”
