The latest injury to Ryan Papenhuyzen has left the Storm fullback “devastated” according to his predecessor, Billy Slater.
The 25-year-old left the field against the Titans on Saturday night with a lower-leg injury, with initial fears it could be have been a high ankle sprain.
However, scans have showed a small fracture in the same ankle he fractured last year, which could see the speedster miss up to six weeks.
“It’s never positive when you hear Ryan Papenhuyzen has left the field, and it’s associated with his previous broken leg,” Slater said on Nine’s Sunday Footy Show.
“I was in contact with Paps last night, and obviously he’s quite dejected because of going through another rehab. He knows what’s in front of him.
“Look, the plate is obviously still in his leg from the last break, therefore, it’s actually broken in a different place. He’ll have surgery and we wish him all the best.
“It’s obviously heartbreaking for him because we all know his history and time out of the game and reasons why, so hopefully he’s back on deck shortly.”
