My mother-in-law called my wedding ‘tacky’ over tier system – people say it’s ‘the cheapest thing I’ve ever heard’

A BUDGET-CONSCIOUS bride has shared a way she cut costs at her wedding that had her mother-in-law labeling it tacky.

Not everyone was a fan of her nuptial nonsense and thought it was cheap and in poor taste.

A Reddit user shared negative feedback she received from her “super low budget” wedding.

She explained in a post that due to being in their 20s, both sets of parents were against the union and didn’t provide much financial assistance for the couple’s special occasion.

Her feelings were “a little hurt” because when my husband’s older sister got married a year prior both her divorced mother-in-law and father-in-law “went all out.”

At the time of the event, the mother-in-law lived two hours away and had been dating her boyfriend “Chris” for about nine months.

Due to distance, the newlyweds barely saw her and never met him, but both planned to attend.

Redditors could understand wanting to cut costs for your wedding, but the way she did it was not favored by most.

To save money, they separated the food situation at the wedding into two tiers.

“If you were in tier one, you could pick from an Italian sausage, a steak, a hotdog, or a burger for dinner,” she explained.

Only family and a few of their closest friends were considered tier one.

Those in tier two were not so lucky.

“If you were tier 2, it was just the burger or hot dog, and there was only enough cake for tier one,” she added.

“Seriously, so disrespectful to anyone in tier two. Yikes. At least their friends and family know where they stand with the newlyweds now,” a Reddit user commented.

The groom’s mother and her boyfriend went to get food during the reception and Chris asked for steak.

Her husband overheard and explained the tiers, letting him know his mom was tier one but he wasn’t.

Chris laughed and said it was okay, but the mother-in-law made a “big deal” about it.

“She called us rude and tacky 3 times. My husband told her to stop causing a scene, and Chris said it was really okay, but she was clearly pissy,” the Reddit user explained in the post.

The next morning she texted the pair that their “party” was embarrassing and that we were tacky.

Her father-in-law and sister-in-law both agreed with her that they were “bad hosts.”

The original poster explained that most wedding attendees understood they were saving money, and “didn’t have any complaints.”

Because of the mixed reviews, she asked Redditors if she was an a**hole for how she handled the reception dining arrangement.

Almost everyone was in agreement that it wasn’t a good look.

“One of the nastiest and tackiest things I’ve ever heard of at a wedding,” one wrote.

“WTF? This is the cheapest s**t I’ve ever heard. Bring a box cake. Box cakes are delicious. You’d have been better off having everyone bring their own meat since you were grilling. Pot luck style would have been even more fair,” another said.
