The WWE Women’s Championship is one of the most prestigious championships that women can fight for in WWE. However, WWE has had several versions of the Women’s Championship under different names. The Women’s World Championship and the WWE Women’s Championship are currently in operation, and the women’s division has come a long way as there has been a Women’s Championship match featuring those titles every year at WrestleMania.

There are several mitigating factors as to why WWE Women’s Champions are disliked and sometimes it isn’t because of their in-ring skills, it could be because of the number of times they win a championship and their character. Babyface Women’s Champions are not exempt from hate, but for one reason or another, they are still not popular with wrestling fans.

Lita did an excellent job as a heel and she is a four-time WWE Women’s Champion. Her final two Women’s Championship reigns were as a heel. She defeated Mickie James for her third and fourth Women’s Championship reigns and she and Edge cemented themselves as the power couple as Edge was holding the WWE Championship.

Nikki Bella deserves a lot of credit for improving inside the squared circle, and she captured the WWE Divas Championship twice. Many wrestling fans loved AJ Lee and were devastated that she broke AJ’s record as the longest-reigning Divas Champion in history at 301 days.

The women’s division wasn’t the strongest when Nikki was the Divas Champion but she could only beat what was in front of her. Nikki had her twin sister Brie by her side, and Charlotte ended Nikki’s historic 301-day Divas Championship reign at Night of Champions 2015.

The heel work of Michelle McCool was outstanding and she was at her best with Layla by her side as LayCool. McCool made history as the first woman to win the WWE Divas Championship and the WWE Women’s Championship in 2009. However, McCool’s bullying of Mickie James rubbed fans the wrong way up.

McCool and Layla were co-WWE Women’s Champions and co-WWE Divas Champions. Fans loved it when McCool got her comeuppance and dropped the Women’s Championship to Mickie James and Beth Phoenix respectively. McCool has yet to be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame, but she was unquestionably one of the top female stars in the women’s locker room.

Furthermore, fans were sick and tired of seeing Charlotte swoop into the women’s title division and kickstart a Women’s Championship reign.

The Queen is a fantastic in-ring competitor and she is a better heel than a babyface. Charlotte defeated the likes of Bayley, Sasha Banks, and Becky Lynch for some of her Women’s Championship reigns.

Ivory saved the women’s division in the summer of 1999 when she got her hands on the WWE Women’s Championship for the first time. Ivory was a fantastic in-ring competitor, but women were not looked at for their in-ring capabilities, it was for their looks and competing in degrading matches.

Ivory won the Women’s Championship twice in 1999, but her third run as Women’s Champion was the best. Ivory joined the Right to Censor in the fall of 2000, and she entered a high-profile feud with Chyna. This showcased the women’s division brightly, and despite beating Chyna to retain the Women’s Championship at the 2001 Royal Rumble, fans were pleased to see Ivory get overpowered in dropping the title to Chyna at WrestleMania 17.

The Irresistible Force isn’t liked by the WWE Universe as she has built a reputation for being dangerous to work with. Jax feuded with Ronda Rousey over the Raw Women’s Championship and they had a title match at Money in the Bank 2018 with Jax’s 70-day reign as Women’s Champion curtailed by Bliss in a Money in the Bank cash-in.

The WWE Universe rejected Rousey and preferred to see Liv Morgan as SmackDown Women’s Champion.

Stephanie barely defended the Women’s Championship which was detrimental to the women’s division. Stephanie and her husband Triple H strutted into WrestleMania 16 as the power couple with Stephanie as the Women’s Champion and Triple H as the WWE Champion.
