Max Holloway Mocks Ilia Topuria After BMF Callout Following UFC 300 Victory

Highlights

  • Holloway embodies true BMF spirit by fighting anyone, anywhere, anytime, without conditions.
  • Topuria’s demand for a BMF title match goes against BMF ethos, Holloway asserts.
  • Holloway’s relentless pursuit of victory continues as he eyes matchups with Topuria and other top fighters.

In a display of sheer grit and determination, Max Holloway showcased the essence of UFC’s BMF title during his epic showdown against Justin Gaethje at UFC 300. However, his triumph wasn’t just in the octagon; it extended to the verbal sparring with Ilia Topuria, who threw down a challenge that Holloway deemed contrary to the BMF mentality.

Holloway has only lost to Alexander Volkanovski in the last ten years at featherweight. Many believed Topuria should have fought Holloway before getting a chance to fight for the title. The Georgian-Spanish star doesn’t have many options for his first defense: either Holloway, Volkanoviski or Brain Ortega.

‘Blessed’ Doesn’t Believe Topuria’s Has The BMF Spirit

Holloway’s relentless pursuit of victory was on full display as he risked it all in the final seconds of the fight against Gaethje, resulting in a knockout deemed one of the greatest in UFC history. However, while Holloway embodies the BMF ethos, Topuria’s demand for a BMF title match raised eyebrows. Holloway responded, asserting that such demands were inconsistent with the true spirit of a BMF fighter, emphasizing that a BMF fights anyone, anywhere, anytime, without conditions.

During an appearance on The MMA Hour, Topuria stated that he was only interested in facing Holloway next if he put the “BMF” title up for grabs, because otherwise “I don’t want him at all.” In response, Holloway says that just proves that maybe Topuria isn’t ready to compete for that title, because making those kinds of demands doesn’t really fit with the “BMF” mentality.

Max Holloway captures the BMF title in spectacular fashion.

“That’s not a very ‘BMF’ way to say it,” Holloway told Jim Rome, according to MMA Fighting, continuing: “A ‘BMF’ wouldn’t say, ‘I’m not going to fight this guy unless …’ That’s kind of un-‘BMF.’ Doesn’t sound ‘BMF’ the way he’s trying to demand it and saying, ‘I’m not going to fight.’

Holloway’s sights remain set on a potential matchup with Topuria, and acknowledges other enticing matchups, including potential clashes with Conor McGregor and Michael Chandler, or a shot at the lightweight title against Islam Makhachev or Dustin Poirier, Holloway’s focus remains unwavering on his ultimate goal: reclaiming championship gold.
