Marjane Satrapi, author of ‘Persépolis’, Princess of Asturias Award for Communication and Humanities 2024

Marjane Satrapi has been honored this Wednesday with the Princess of Asturias Award for Communication and Humanities 2024.

The jury of the Princess of Asturias Award for Communication and Humanities has announced this afternoon the winner of an award for which they are competing this year 47 candidates from 15 nationalities.

This award, intended to distinguish “the work of cultivation and improvement of the sciences and disciplines considered as humanistic activities and those related to the media social in all its expressions”, fell last year on the Italian philosopher, writer and professor Nuccio Ordinewho died shortly after the award was awarded, on June 10, 2023.

In previous editions they have been worthy of this award, among others, the journalist and writer Adam Michnik; the Guadalajara International Book Fair (Mexico) and the Hay Festival of Literature & Arts; the Prado Museum; the journalist Alma Guillermoprieto; Les Luthiers; photographers James Nachtwey and Annie Leibovitz; the philosopher Emilio Lledó; the graphic humorist Joaquín Salvador Lavado ‘Quino’; the video game designer Shigeru Miyamoto or The Royal Society.

Among the candidates in this 44th edition of the awards are “outstanding Hispanicists” and also relevant communicators and humanists, as highlighted this Monday, at the beginning of the deliberations, by the president of the jury, the philologist and former director of the Royal Spanish Academy Víctor García de la Concha, who also highlighted the presence of “international personalities” who confirm that This award is “highly valued” outside of Spain.

The Communication and Humanities award is the second of the eight awards held annually by the Princess of Asturias Foundation to fail, after last Wednesday the Arts Award was awarded to the Catalan singer-songwriter Joan Manuel Serrat.

The act of delivery of the Princess of Asturias Awards will be celebratedAs is traditional, in the month of October in a solemn ceremony presided over by the kings at the Campoamor Theater in Oviedo, accompanied by Princess Leonor and Infanta Sofía.

Each Princess of Asturias Award is endowed with the reproduction of a sculpture Joan Miro -representative symbol of the award-, an accrediting diploma, a badge and the cash amount of 50,000 euros.
