Longest AEW Championship Reigns

AEW may have only been around since 2019, coming up to its fourth year of existence, but in that time there have been some fairly lengthy title reigns. Across the board, there have been an array of great championship reigns in each division (perhaps aside from the newest introduced Trios Championship which has been a dud so far), though some of these have come in shorter stints.

Just because a title reign is long doesn’t necessarily always mean that it is among the best, but it does certainly help to increase the chances of it being a memorable run with gold. No one in AEW has quite reached the heights of the legendary near-1000 day run of Roman Reigns in WWE, but there have still been some long ones nonetheless.

Over the years, lengthy title reigns have come and gone in AEW, with it being more of a norm early on, but with more frequent title changes in recent times. There are still some pretty long title reigns that have occurred across every division, with even more being looked at here including the AEW World Tag Team Championships, the AEW World Trios Championships, and the AEW World Championship, the latter of which saw its longest reigning title holder throughout last year. As time goes on, expect to see plenty more long title reigns get booked, adding more to this list.

13 FTR’s Second AEW World Tag Team Title Reign Was Better Than Their First

Length Of Reign: 185 Days

FTR won their second tag team titles in AEW by defeating The Gunns on an episode of AEW Dynamite, and this run was arguably better than their first. One of the best tag team matches in television history took place during this reign, as they clashed with Jay White & Juice Robinson in an absolute classic.

They shockingly lost the belts in squash match to Big Bill and Ricky Starks in October of 2023, and were not able to reclaim them in the months which followed.

12 Darby Allin Was One Of The Best TNT Champions

Length Of Reign: 186 Days

Darby Allin was the definition of a fighting champion in his first TNT Championship reign, often main-eventing Dynamite on a weekly basis against all comers such as Brian Cage, Matt Hardy, Scorpio Sky, Jungle Boy, and more.

For Allin though, his number of defenses became too much for him, as he eventually dropped the gold to Miro. Each week, Allin was scraping through by the skin of his teeth to allow his reign to tick over another week. In truth, not only was this the longest TNT Title reign to date, but also the best.

11 Adam Page Had An Underwhelming But Fairly Long AEW World Title Reign

Length Of Reign: 197 Days

Adam Page had some tremendous matches throughout his reign as AEW World Champion, having show-stealers against Bryan Danielson, Adam Cole, and Lance Archer, but for the most part despite a fairly long reign, Page’s time as champion was one which was looked down upon.

After what was arguably the best underdog storyline of the last decade, Page became champion in a wonderful moment at Full Gear 2021, but AEW followed this up with Page never really being booked like the most important guy on the roster.

10 Adam Page & Kenny Omega Are Still One Of The Most Entertaining AEW World Tag Champs

Length Of Reign: 228 Days

Adam Page and Kenny Omega became only the second ever AEW World Tag Team Champions, but they embarked on a wonderful reign together, despite not being a conventional and established tag team.

They have had ups and downs as a duo, but they remained strong in multiple show-stealing matches against opponents in the Young Bucks, Lucha Bros, Jurassic Express, Best Friends, and more. After over 200 days, the pair finally fell to FTR.

9 The Acclaimed & Billy Gunn Had A Long But Poor Reign As AEW Trios World Champions

Length Of Reign: 228 Days

At All In 2023, The Acclaimed & Billy Gunn won the AEW World Trios Championships, going on a reign which lasted over 200 days. However, with hardly any PPV appearances, no memorable feuds, and an act which was (and still is) rapidly losing popularity, the reign was a complete mess.

The trios division has suffered in that time too, with this being an example of a long feud which served no benefit, and actually hurt all involved.

8 Jon Moxley’s First AEW World Title Reign Was His Longest

Length Of Reign: 277 Days

Jon Moxley has been a three-time AEW World Champion, though his first run with the gold was the longest at 277 days. After defeating Chris Jericho at Revolution 2020, he went on to hold the top prize for several months.

He had a very strong reign with great match after great match including battles with MJF, Brodie Lee, Eddie Kingston, and Darby Allin. Moxley helped to further legitimize this title and make it one of the most sought after prizes in professional wrestling.

7 Britt Baker Dominated The Women’s Division When Fans Returned From The Pandemic

Length Of Reign: 290 Days

It was long overdue when Britt Baker won the AEW Women’s World Title with her being by far the most over woman on the roster by the time she won the gold. AEW waited out until arenas returned to full capacity before crowning her as champion, but it was worth the wait when she defeated Hikaru Shida at Double or Nothing 2021 in a great moment.

Her reign was an up and down one at times, but for the most part she was presented as the biggest deal in the whole division for nearly 300 days. Baker would main event the likes of Dynamite and Rampage during this reign, which is still quite a rarity for the women’s division in AEW.

6 Young Bucks Have The Longest AEW World Tag Team Champions

Length Of Reign: 302 Days

The Young Bucks had arguably the best reign as AEW World Tag Team Champions in a reign that lasted an incredible 300 days, making them the longest reigning tag team champions in the company’s history.

The faced nearly every team on the whole roster in matches that never failed to disappoint, outlasting opponents such as Best Friends, Top Flight, FTR, Death Triangle, Eddie Kingston & Jon Moxley, MJF & Chris Jericho, The Acclaimed, Santana & Ortiz, SCU, and the list just goes on and on.

5 Orange Cassidy Is Arguably AEW’s Greatest Champion

Length Of Reign: 326 Days

Orange Cassidy’s AEW International Championship reign (continuing on from his reign as All-Atlantic Champion, as the title was renamed) was incredible. When looking at every division, Cassidy has more title defenses than any champion in AEW history.

Week in, week out, Casssidy wrestled in high quality matches and managed to find ways to win, outlasting the likes of Bandido, Jeff Jarrett, Rey Fenix, Katsuyori Shibata, Zack Sabre Jr, Swerve Strickland, Trent Seven, Gabriel Kidd, Jake Hager, and many more too. It is hard to argue that this is the best title reign in AEW history.

4 Kenny Omega Was The Belt Collector During His AEW World Championship Reign

Length Of Reign: 346 Days

To date, Kenny Omega is the longest reigning AEW World Champion of all time. He managed to procure the AEW World Title, continuing his spree on collecting belts from other promotions, such as AAA and Impact.

He defeated names such as Jon Moxley, Jungle Boy, Rey Fenix, Orange Cassidy, PAC, Christian Cage, and Rich Swann during the course of this reign that ended up being just shy of a whole year, as Adam Page managed to defeat him at Full Gear 2021.

3 Hikaru Shida’s AEW Women’s World Title Reign Is The Longest

Length Of Reign: 372 Days

Hikaru Shida was the first person to hold an AEW championship for over a whole year, with her reign lasting a phenomenal 372 days.

Any time she defended her title she had a great match, battling top names up and down the roster, carrying the women’s division throughout the pandemic era. Her goal was to defend the gold in front of a full crowd, and she managed to make it all the way to Double or Nothing 2021 in order to do that.

2 MJF Is The Longest Reigning World Champion In AEW History

Length Of Reign: 406 Days

MJF was AEW World Champion for over a year, leading the company and defending his gold against top names such as Bryan Danielson, Adam Cole, Darby Allin, Samoa Joe, Jay White, Kenny Omega, and more.

Throughout his reign, he went from the top heel to a super over babyface, had his own title design, and became a ROH Tag Team Champion too. In the end, the injuries piled up and he dropped the gold to Samoa Joe.

1 Jade Cargill Is The Longest Reigning Champion In AEW History

Length Of Reign: 508 Days

Jade Cargill is not only undefeated in AEW, and not only does she have the most defenses of any AEW title, but she is also the longest-reigning champion in AEW history as her TBS Championship run is approaching an astonishing 500 days in just a month’s time.

Some may say that Cargill’s reign is dragging on for too long, but it is hard to disagree that it has still been very impressive.
