Jerry Lawler is a legend in the wrestling business, not just from what he accomplished in the ring, but over the last several decades, for what he did as a commentator. His run with Jim Ross created the most famous commentary duo in history, but on May 6, after thirty plus years with WWE (not including the short time he left the company in 2001), Lawler and WWE parted ways. This was coming off of a significant stroke he suffered last year that, while he survived it, left him weakened. He has appeared in WWE a few times since, once in a pre-taped segment, and once where he came out during a Raw commercial break to wave to his hometown crowd in Memphis. So how is the King doing today with his life undergoing a second significant change?
PWInsider spoke to Jerry Lawler on May 6 to ask him about his health and WWE release. As for how he’s physically doing now, Lawler said:
“I’m doing fine doing very good and thanks for asking about my health. it’s been quite a bit of controversy there about my health. I’ve had some health problems going back about seven months now. I had a stroke spent some time getting over that and But I feel like now I feel like it feels like a good time to get back out on the road again a bit. So that’s what I’m starting off with this big event in Evansville. Day to day, physically for me is feeling good. Getting around my house, everything’s fine and dandy, but just the little things that that I take me longer to do some things than I used to But as far as look and feel I feel and feel as good as I ever did.”

Jerry Lawler might be a professional wrestling legend, but “The King” wore some ugly attires throughout his epic career.
How Is Jerry Lawler Handling His WWE Release?
It’s great to hear that Jerry Lawler is physically doing so well. Although he is healthy, at the age of 74 and what his body has been through, it’s unfortunate that he must finally step aside, but it’s a reality he accepts. Lawler told PWInsider:
“One other thing that a lot of people wonder about, my career has probably ended with the WWE and that’s it’s just one of those things that goes with my getting over with all the stuff that happened with the stroke and it was my, my just sitting behind a desk and doing it commentating on a match again was the extremely difficult.”
Even before the stroke, Lawler hadn’t been very active with WWE, working commentary infrequently and appearing on pre-show roundtables here and there. If his wrestling career is truly over, he can be proud that he’ll go down as one of the most famous names to ever work in the business. We at TheSportster are happy to hear that he’s doing so well and wish him the best.
