At the Backlash 2024 premium live event, Jade Cargill and Bianca Belair defeated The Kabuki Warriors (Asuka and Kairi Sane) to become the brand new WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions. This marks Cargill’s first title since signing with WWE, and it is also the first time Belair has won tag team gold. There may be some fans who see their star power as a sign that the tag team division is headed in a good direction for a change. However, the best course of action would be to make Cargill and Belair the final ever WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions, and there are multiple reasons for this.

Jade Cargill and Bianca Belair had a tough task putting the Kabuki Warriors away at Backlash 2024, but in the end their power was far too much for Asuka and Kairi Sane to handle. It must be said though, that in terms of the wider women’s tag team division, there is no other team on the level of talent and standing as Sane and Asuka. With Cargill and Belair already defeating them, they have beaten the best the women’s tag team division has to offer. The division is still at a low point with few notable teams with momentum.

Chad Gable has long been compared to Kurt Angle, and now as a heel, he has another chance to be just like the Olympic hero.
Candice LeRae and Indi Hartwell are building some standing after a heel turn, but they will never be on the level to defeat a team like Belair and Cargill. Elsewhere, Isla Dawn and Alba Fyre, Piper Niven and Chelsea Green, Kayden Carter and Katana Chance, and Zoey Stark and Shayna Baszler make up the rest of what is a bland and boring division with hardly any interesting characters or feuds. Unless WWE plucks some magic out of nowhere, there are no teams in WWE right now who could believably defeat two larger-than-life current champions. So, how can WWE tackle this issue? This answer is that no one should ever beat Cargill and Belair.

Over the next several months, Jade Cargill and Bianca Belair should run through the women’s tag team division. They need to defeat every team that comes in their way, even heading down to NXT to take on the best in developmental too. The pair need to look absolutely unstoppable during this title reign, and they need to beat their opponents in stylish and dominant fashion. A Cargill and Belair title defense should be fun to watch as they steamroll the opposition, no matter who it is. Their reign has the potential to be a strong one, but in the end, it needs to come to a point where WWE has no option but to retire the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships.
How Triple H Revitalized WWE’s Tag Team Division
Vince McMahon didn’t appreciate tag teams, but under Triple H’s creative vision, they’ve become stars again in WWE.
An angle where management needs to take the titles away from Cargill and Belair because they are simply so dominant and there are no teams left is the best way for WWE to escape the curse of the women’s tag team division. Simply ending the division out of nowhere will feel cheap, but booking it like this would allow things to come to a natural end, and one which gives the tag team division at least something to shout out before it ceases to exist.

The women’s tag team division has done more harm than good for WWE’s female talent, with many having no direction and being thrown into meaningless partnerships. Taking these titles away will benefit the division as a whole – but only if the next step sees a midcard championship introduced. Fans have been calling for a midcard division for the women’s roster for some time now, especially with so many promising names feeling in purgatory due to not being on the level of the main event such as Zoey Stark, Raquel Rodriguez, Chelsea Green, and more.
How WWE’s “New Era” Has Dramatically Improved Their Presentation
With Vince McMahon and Kevin Dunn out, WWE’s on screen product is not only more exciting but looks it too.
A good way to bring about a midcard title could be for WWE to book a match between Cargill and Belair to crown the first champion, given that they were so strong as tag champs. The expected direction of Belair turning heel and costing them the belts feels very lethargic, overdone, and too predictable, so a direction like this would keep them both strong and ensure a historic first midcard champion. This would also avoid the typical “tournament” route that wrestling so often takes with inaugural champions. Change needs to happen for the tag team division, and this is the best way to finally fix an ongoing half-a-decade problem.
