It’s completely free to upload clothes to the app and Vinted does not take a cut of sellers’ profits and instead charges buyers a small fee to purchase each item.

The content creator, known only as @mrsinkeduk, shared her top tips via a video posted to her TikTok channel.

Holding up a giant pile of her old clothes, the savvy seller revealed that she had managed to sell the whole lot in just a few days.

Explaining what she did to make such a large amount of sales, Mrs Inked revealed that she always makes sure to photograph her products from every possible angle, and includes pictures of product labels and any imperfections the items may have.

She added that she always does her research, to find out how much similar products are selling for on the website.

She said: “If an item very similar to yours sold for £30, then put it up for £30.

“If similar items are only selling for £10, then price yours as £10, and accept £8”.

The savvy seller explained that it is very important to offer discounts to shoppers who buy more than one item from you, as this will encourage more sales.

She shared that one shopper had bought three items from her, as she offered them a 30% discount.

The Vinted whizz added that the way you package your items is so important, as nicely packaged products with small gifts or messages inside, are likely to create good reviews, which will encourage more shoppers to buy from you.

Demonstrating how she packs her items, Mrs Inked wrapped her clothes in white tissue paper, fastened it together with a sticker, and then placed a small packet of Love Hearts sweets.

TikTok users raced to the comments section of Mrs Inked’s video, to share their thoughts on her tips.

One person said: “I always do this”.

A second person said: “Your tips are great!”

A third added: “These are so helpful!”

Financial pressures in British homes saw sales of second-hand goods jump by 15 per cent to £21 billion in 2022.
One in six people now say they buy used items, according to research commissioned by review site Trustpilot.

So, now’s the perfect time to make yourself some extra cash on the likes of Vinted.

Do you need to pay tax on items sold on Vinted?

QUICK facts on tax from the team at Vinted…

  • The only time that an item might be taxable is if it sells for more than £6,000 and there is profit (sells for more than you paid for it). Even then, you can use your capital gains tax-free allowance of £3,000 to offset it.
  • Generally, only business sellers trading for profit (buying goods with the purpose of selling for more than they paid for them) might need to pay tax. Business sellers who trade for profit can use a tax-free allowance of £1,000, which has been in place since 2017.

According to the popular platform, sellers do not have to pay tax on earnings they make from the site.

This, HMRC stated, is because selling personal items through platforms like Vinted is not itself taxable.

”If the money a member makes on Vinted over a year is less than the amount they paid for the items they are selling, then there is no tax to pay,” a Vinted spokesperson explained.

”Generally, only business sellers “trading” for profit might need to pay tax.
