ITV confirms future of beloved quiz show after whopping 30 series on air

ITV have confirmed the future of its beloved game show Catchphrase.

A revival hosted by Stephen Mulhern premiered in 2013 and has remained on-screen ever since.

Catchphrase itself dates back to 1986 and originally ran until 2004, with three presenters taking the reins during the first run.

Overall, there have been a whopping 30 series aired across the two iterations of Catchphrase.

Although some elements have changed, familiar elements such as mascot Mr. Chips have remained.

Stephen is a familiar face to ITV viewers through his work on Dancing on Ice, Deal or No Deal, In For a Penny and formerly Britain’s Got More Talent.

It has now been confirmed he will be returning with a batch of brand new episodes of Celebrity Catchphrase later this year.

These new episodes will be airing on ITV1 and ITVX with three famous faces in each show given the chance to win £50,000 for a chosen cause.

It comes as Stephen recently teased the future of another ITV show, Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway.

He joined in its 12th series and remained until the show went on an indefinite hiatus earlier this year.

Ant and Dec were left in tears during the final episode, however, Stephen may have let slip a secret during an interview with Heart Radio.

Asked if he was going to miss the variety show, Stephen revealed: “Of course! Yeah. Listen, a massive part of my life and obviously Ant and Dec’s 20 years. It was brilliant.

“We had the best, best time and I do think it will come back… Honestly!”

Presenter Lindsey Russell asked Stephen for more information and he referenced the show’s previous break between 2009 to 2013.

He said: “They did it before, they rested it up for about three years just to revamp everything and I do think it will come back.”

Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly are said to already be working on a replacement for the show after it came to an end.
