“It is not fair to make the owners pay for the government’s inaction”

Andorra la VellaCarine Montaner, councilor general and prominent member of the opposition as president of the party Andorra Go aheadhas issued a forceful appeal against various practices that he considers unfair and simplistic in the political framework of the Principality towards the new housing bill.

In a recent statement to this newspaper, Highlander he has highlighted several aspects that he considers seriously unfair. Among them, he criticizes the practice of putting all landlords in the same bag, as well as making landlords pay for government inaction on housing. The councilor also harshly criticized the lack of a public stock of affordable housing, underlining the urgent need to improve policies in this area.

Andorra Go ahead has vindicated his proposal, which had proposed a mandatory 3-year extension where landlords would have to make a small effort to maintain rental agreements with their tenants, as long as they paid the rent. This, according to her, would be enough time to establish one public housing stock at an affordable price and implement effective, non-interventionist measures.

“I remember that Andorra did not have until now a public housing stock at an affordable price for its people like in many countries around it. Monaco has 4,000 flats for its nationals” he adds Highlander.

Finally, the councilor reinforced her position by stating that “it is not fair to make retroactive laws or tolerate the legal insecurity we are experiencing“. In addition, she pointed to the simplification of the political discourse, which, according to her, indiscriminately blames investors for all ills. “It is not fair to have a simplistic discourse about the good and the bad‘”, he affirmed, calling for responsibility and dialogue in the management of public affairs.
