The Iranian Revolutionary Guard has presented this Sunday a new model of internally manufactured kamikaze drone that is categorized as a “loitering munition”, a type of projectile that flies over an area until the target is exposed and then it lunges at him and explodes.
This new model, whose name has not been revealed at the moment, would be similar to the Russian-made ZALA Lancet droneaccording to the Iranian news agency Tasnim, dependent on the Iranian Revolutionary Guard.
This new projectile has similar characteristics to the Russian Lancet, with a flight autonomy of between 30 and 60 minutes and a load capacity of between 3 and 6 kilos. Its range is 40 kilometers.
“This new suicide drone will considerably improve the combat capability of ground troops“and its use focuses on counterambush operations, according to Tasnim.
The projectile has an electro-optical system and an integrated explosive head and due to its small size it can be transported by the ground forces similar to similar munitionssuch as the Meraj-521 drone or the Sina drone.
The Revolutionary Guard highlights the “large investment” in recent years in the development of kamikaze drones such as the Shahed-131 or the Shahed-136. USA, United Kingdom and Canada approved last Thursday new sanctions against Iran for the drone attack against Israel of April 13 specifically aimed at the production and export of Iranian drones.
