I’m 22 and built a house in the Caribbean for just £3k – I laid the bricks myself & I have no council tax or mortgage

SOME dream of visiting the Caribbean, but one 22-year-old has taken things up a notch.

He decided to up sticks and build a house in sunny Tobago for just £3K – saving him loads on a home here in rainy Britain.

Alex says he wouldn't have got much for £3K in Britain but in Tobago he built a spacious home for himself

Alex Cassidy shared just how he did it in clip on TikTok that gained 70.8K likes.

The 22-year-old was gifted some land by his stepfather and he used his savings of £3K to build a house from scratch.

Showcasing his Caribbean home on TikTok, Alex highlights exactly what he built from scratch.

The stunning one bedroom home is spacious and includes an open plan kitchen, a bathroom, and a balcony that provides stunning views of mountainous land and tropics that the island is best known for.

The home the young Brit built is situated in Tobago, which is the smaller of the 2 Caribbean islands comprising the republic of Trinidad and Tobago.

Alex describes his one-bedroom house as, “a glorified shed, but it’s a house and I own every bit of it.

The £3,000 got me the plumbing done, the labouring, the bricks. But I did a lot of the labouring myself, but most of it came from knowing people who could give me good deals

Alex did it all without taking no loans and is relieved that he doesn’t have to pay council tax like one would in the UK.

His new Caribbean home just took four months to build, and Alex boasts that not only did his house cost less to build than it would in the UK, the cost of living is ridiculously cheaper too.

“Every three months I pay around £50 for electricity. I pay just a bit more for water and wifi is around £30-40 every quarter. I know people in the UK paying over £200 a month for electricity alone,” he boasts.

I split from my fiancée & sold my belongings to live off-grid in a camper truck – but it feels like I’ve hit the jackpot

Amazed by the price difference in utilities to that of the UK which is currently battling a cost of living crisis, Alex feels he has escaped it by moving to Tobago where he says he could leave his lights on all day, and it wouldn’t make much difference to his £50 bill.

Viewers were jaw droppingly shocked by the low cost of utilities and were quick to respond to Alex’s TikTok.

One commented saying: “I pay 268 for my electric and £140 on my gas,” **crying emoji’s**

While another left completely inspired said: “I’m packing my bags now.”
