Illa offers a great pact to the City Councils while ERC and Junts apply as the only alternative

The leader of the PSC and candidate for the Catalan elections of 12M, Salvador Illa, has promised this Sunday a “great pact with the municipalities” to collaborate and work with the City Councils to improve public serviceswhile ERC and Junts have applied as only alternative on the first weekend of the election campaign. The president of Esquerra, Oriol Junqueras, has stated at a party event in Geneva that his party is the “only one” that can articulate a majority to achieve a referendum, while former president Carles Puigdemont has asked to concentrate the vote on his formation to that the PSC candidate does not benefit from a high abstention.

The socialist candidate, at a rally at the Teatre Sagarra in Santa Coloma de Gramenet (Barcelona), denounced the negligence of the independence governments at the head of the Generalitat with the councils that have experienced, in his opinion, “10 years of turning our backs on city councils”and has criticized the “reluctance” to collaborate with municipal executives.

“We are going to put public services at the forefront, as the first priority of the Generalitat, with a great pact with the municipalities,” stated the socialist leader, who has committed to “work side by side” with councils in areas such as education, health, housing, security and infrastructure. “Is there any other way to solve problems if not helping with the town councils?” has pointed out.

Illa has made these statements accompanied by the Minister of Industry, Jordi Hereu, and the mayor of Santa Coloma and spokesperson for the PSC, Núria Parlon, who has accused the Government of acting “with institutional disloyalty, with disloyalty to the municipalities”and blaming city councils for housing and security policies.

ERC and Junts are running as the only alternative

For its part, the ERC senior staff has traveled to Geneva (Switzerland) to claim their “resistance” during the 93-year history of the formation against the extreme right, and has been nominated as “the party most retaliated against.”

These are the 10 main candidates for the Catalan elections, from left to right: Salvador Illa, Pere Aragonés, Carles Puigdemont, Ignacio Garriga, Jessica Albiach, Laia Estrada, Carlos Carrizosa, Alejandro Fernandez, Clara Ponsatí and Nuria Orriols.

The president of the Generalitat and candidate for re-election, Pere Aragonès, has assured that 1-O was one of the most important “acts of emancipation and liberation” in the history of Catalonia and has stressed that “the work of October 1 is not over yet.”

“To go back is to give victory to the extreme right, and we will never do it“said Aragonès, accompanied by the general secretary of ERC, Marta Rovira, and the deputy in Parliament, Ruben Wagensberg both investigated for terrorism in the Tsunami Democràtic cause.

The president of the party, Oriol Junqueras, also attended the event, who defended that the Republicans are “the only ones” who can build a large majority to make a referendum possible in Catalonia and, also, win it.

For Junqueras, the greatest lesson of 1-O is to demonstrate that the State will only collapse when “the democratic victory is so great as to overcome the use of non-democratic tools by the State“.

While the sword cousins of ERC met in Switzerland, the Junts+ candidate for the Parliamentary elections, Carles Puigdemont, spoke again from Argelès-sur-Mer (France), from where he is carrying out the electoral campaign. At this Sunday’s event, the former president asked concentrate the vote on his candidacy to prevent the “abstention” and the “division of the independence movement” can “help” the PSC candidate to be the next president of the Generalitat.

During the rally, Puigdemont assured that the 12-M elections “can only end in two ways”: “Or we put the country in the hands of a tripartite that will go to Madridgives to receive instructions, or we put Catalonia in the hands of a force led by a president who goes to Madrid to give instructions and to stand up when they say no.

On the other hand, the Junts+ candidate has once again reproached Illa for attending the Federal Committee of the PSOE to support Sánchez along with the rest of the socialist leaders and has insisted that This decision shows that his priority “is the party” and not Catalonia.

“Arsonist firefighter”

From Lleida, the PP candidate for the presidency of the Generalitat, Alejandro Fernandezhas accused this Sunday the PSC of being “the pyromaniac firefighter who fuels the rupture” compared to his speech of “uniting” the Catalans. Fernández has assured that, although among the socialists there are still people “in good faith” who believe them, they have a “devastating balance” that contradicts them.

Albiach demands a progressive government

For her part, the Comuns-Sumar candidate, Jessica Albiachhas called on citizens to go to the polls on 12-M with the aim of “keeping the right very far from the Generalitat”: “We want a progressive government”has claimed in a campaign event in the Farga de Hospitalet de Llobregat, where he has asked for the vote “to defend the State government and continue advancing in rights and freedoms”.

In addition, Albiach has charged against Puigdemont for downplaying the importance of who is in the Government: “What has been believed? That Catalans would not notice the difference between a fascist coalition government and a progressive coalition government?” he asked.
