Ignacio Bayón, Minister of Industry and Energy with Adolfo Suárez, dies at 80

Ignacio Bayón Marinewho was Minister of Energy and Industry in the Executive of Adolfo Suarez from 1980 to 1982, died this Saturday at the age of 80, as reported by the Royal Academy of Gastronomyof which he was a member.

Bayón, PhD in Law from the Complutense University of Madrid, held other public positions as a lawyer for the Council of State and the Francoist Cortes, as well as Undersecretary of Housing in 1975.

Likewise, he had an extensive career in the business sector given his career in company advice such as Nestlé, Canal Plus, Repsol, Telefónica, FCC, National Institute of Industry (INI) and the Official Credit Institute (ICO). Linked to this, it is worth noting that he held the presidency of Citroën, Renfe, the Espasa publishing house, Realia and the Omsa food group.

In 2015, Bayón assumed the presidency of the Board of Trustees of the Foundation to Help Against Drug Addiction (FAD), an institution that was precisely founded by a colleague of his in Suárez’s cabinet, Manuel Gutiérrez Mellado.
