A GREEN-FINGERED homeowner has revealed how they transformed their lawn using an affordable household item.
They said the hack is ideal for anyone on a “strict budget” who wants a lush green lawn.

Many homeowners are preparing to enjoy time in their backyards as warmer days approach and have begun to overhaul the space.
Beautiful flowers may be blooming but they can be easily overlooked if they are next to an unsightly lawn.
A now-deleted Reddit user took to the lawn care forum to share a hack that gave them impressive results.
“So I’ve been dealing with some majorly compacted soil, heavy in clay,” they wrote.
“Tested a small area with used coffee grounds I saved up over a month.
“After a few months that area improved drastically, better drainage, deep roots, greener grass.
“Problem was I have 7000sq ft of lawn to fix, that’s a lot of coffee grounds…”
The Reddit user said they thought of a way to get the coffee needed for the hack for free.
“Off I went to a few local coffee shops in my area, spoke to the owners/managers, and had three out of four stores agree to save their used grounds for me,” they said.
“Over the course of a few months, I must have collected hundreds of pounds from them… for free.
“Now my lawn is lush, not compacted, and looking great!”
They revealed that they manually aerated the area before sprinkling the coffee grounds.
Aeration is a process that involves creating small holes to allow air, water, and essential nutrients to easily access the soil.
According to B&Q, methods can include core aeration, spike aeration, and liquid aeration.
Core aerators allow for deeper and longer-lasting benefits to the soil, while liquid aerators are best for lawns with difficult soil.
Coffee grounds can be found at Walmart for just $4.

The hack comes after gardening expert Mark Lane told The U.S. Sun coffee attracts worms which are “vital” to a healthy garden.
He said it can also be used as a pest repellent indoors and outdoors.
“All types of coffee can be used, whether you like light roast or dark roast,” he said.
“The coffee scent will help repel ants, snails and slugs, bees, fleas, and thrips.”
