Akta Bavalia (@aktabavalia_) is transparent about how her hair has been thinning over the last few years.

As a trichologist in training, she’s learned several tips to combat this pesky issue.

Now that she’s completely “hair and beauty obsessed,” she shares her lessons learned with others and product recommendations.

She showed how she uses a beauty item specifically for thinning hair in an Instagram Reel.

The Lumos Hair co-founder frequently gets questions about the widening of her part and joked that she would be a rich woman if she made money on it.

Her spot is a scar and the thinning around it is a direct result.

It doesn’t bother her anymore as much as it used to, but sometimes she does like to make it look a little less obvious.

Her go-to for this is the Colorwow Hair Root Cover-up, $34.50, in dark brown.

Akta admitted in the video caption that she didn’t understand why people were so “offended” by the fact that she had a bald spot, but she shared her quick hair remedy anyway.

According to the product description, it covers grays, touches up highlights, and fills in sparse areas.

“You only need to pat in a tiny amount into the areas that you feel are a bit more sparse because we’re out here trying to look like a Kardashian with a perfect hairline,” she explained in the video.

The beauty buy gives her something “a little bit more naturally crisp,” she said.

Many viewers appreciated her transparency and related to her situation.

“Honestly, thank you for normalizing hair thinning and wider parts,” one commented.

“I have the same bold spot at the same place! I don’t know why it happens – the rest of my scalp is pretty normal,” another added.

“Mine is wider at the beginning for some reason. Will be trying this,” a woman wrote.

Akta also shared a few additional measures she takes to disguise her thinning locks with The U.S. Sun.

In addition to powders such as Colorwow, she said that incorporating innovative solutions like Nanogen Keratine Hair Fibers, $34.81, can be “transformative” for those with less density.

“These fibers possess a unique static charge, effectively creating the illusion of fuller locks,” she added.

Also, incorporating hair mousses during blow-drying “can work wonders.”

It infuses the hair with added body and volume, giving tresses a “thicker, more voluminous appearance.”

Tips for styling thinning hair

Rachael E. D Sey is a certified trichologist with almost 15,000 Instagram followers.

She revealed to The U.S. Sun how to protect hair from further loss.

Hairstyles

Sey recommended opting for a top knot or loosely braided ponytail over styles that tension strands.

She also advised to limit the use of heat tools such as a hair dryer or straightener.

Those who have afro hair, should avoid braids or consider larger braids.

DIY treatments

The trichologist said hair should be washed regularly and trimmed every six weeks.

She recommended using hair oils to help “improve scalp circulation and follicles.”

Akta advised not to overlook styling tools like Kitsch’s Ponyfull, $12, which “offers a creative way to enhance the thickness of ponytails.”

Above all, the entrepreneur explained that maintaining a regular hair-washing routine is equally important as using any cover-up or concealment product.

“Greasy buildup can cause strands to clump together, accentuating sparse areas and undermining overall volume,” she said.
