How WWE’s “New Era” Has Dramatically Improved Their Presentation

Highlights

  • WWE’s stale presentation was due to Kevin Dunn’s outdated production methods.
  • With Dunn gone, WWE has made fresh changes, adding excitement and new shots.
  • Improved presentation has made WWE feel alive, with fans being more optimistic.

Over the last few months, ever since Vince McMahon was firmly and fully removed from any sort of power in WWE, the company has undergone several big chances that has seen the birth of a “New Era”. With long-tenured names being gone from the company and the increased presence and influence of the likes of Triple H, the landscape of WWE is changing on a weekly basis, and with it there has been quality improvement all across the board, not to mention a boom in business and interest. One of the major talking points has been the improvement of WWE’s presentation, which has been a direct result of this “New Era” coming into play.

WWE’s Presentation Had Been Stale For A Long Time

Vince McMahon And His Team Were Stuck In Their Ways

  • WWE’s viewership was on a gradual decline
  • A big reason for WWE’s decline for this was the stale presentation
  • WWE used an abundance of camera cuts and overly produced promos and commentary

One of the biggest recurring issues for WWE over the last few years is the complete lack of desire to embrace listening to fans, trying something new, and exiting old habits. When watching WWE’s presentation, especially in the later years of Vince McMahon’s rule, the constant camera cuts, the unnatural feeling, the over-scripted promos and controlled commentary, the banning on certain words and terms, ignoring WrestleMania numbers (and other weird Vince McMahon quirks), bizarre and bland gimmicks, and more, were all things that were jarring, especially when it comes to bringing in new viewers. In many ways, WWE’s presentation felt unnatural if you took a step back.

Vince McMahon finds himself in legal trouble once again. Here are a few facts and details regarding his latest lawsuit.

Each week, every show was the same. Repetitive matches, no development in stories, the same opening video packages, the excessive recaps, the promo to start the show, and the same style of entrances and interviews, treating the audience like idiots, all led to every show feeling indistinguishable from the next. As was seen in the declining viewership over the years, fans were falling out of love with the product and not tuning in to weekly episodes of RAW and SmackDown. In a word, the presentation of WWE was stale. Sure, there were positives here and there amongst the bad, but it was hard to ignore how bland a lot of WWE was. And then McMahon was gone, and the promotion felt an enormous change.

Kevin Dunn Leaving WWE Has Created A Hugely Positive Change In Presentation

WWE Is Finally Trying New Things In Their On-Screen Product

  • Fans were sick of Kevin Dunn’s production
  • Since Kevin Dunn left, WWE fans saw an immediate change
  • New camera shots and a feeling of excitement has come about due to WWE’s production

A big reason for the lack of changes in WWE’s presentation was due to Kevin Dunn, who was a long-standing Executive Producer in the company and the man behind how you viewed WWE each and every week. Dunn parted ways with WWE at the turn of the year, and the changes were almost immediate. Suddenly, WWE’s quick, seizure-inducing camera cuts were a thing of the past, extended camera shots were imposed, different angles were introduced, as were new graphics, unique ways of opening shows by showing wrestlers entering the arena were added, an enhanced flow to backstage segments which integrated multiple stories to allow each event to seamlessly piece together has now become a norm, making WWE’s roster and backstage area feel like an active ecosystem.

  • It might not be perfect, but different camera shots and trying new things allows fans to be more invested
  • Everything about WWE’s “New Era” is gaining positivity

With the positive changes coming about from the presentation, this has had a direct impact on other aspects of the show too. With WWE’s improved entrances, different presentation, making a big deal of hometowns, and more, it has led to WWE’s talent truly feeling like “superstars”.
