AEW star and former World Champion Kenny Omega has been advertised and confirmed to be making his return to AEW next week on Dynamite. When we last saw Omega, he was at odds with The Young Bucks as he formed a tag team with Chris Jericho. The duo called themselves The Golden Jets and had their sights set on capturing the AEW World Tag Team titles. Omega wrestled his last match on December 5, 2023, against Ethan Page at AEW Collision. Shortly thereafter, Omega suffered a scary life or death situation that placed him out of commission until the present day.

Kenny Omega Is Battling Diverticulitis

  • Kenny Omega’s last match was on Collision with Ethan Page
  • Kenny Omega may need surgery for his diverticulitis
  • Next week’s Dynamite will include the return of Kenny Omega

As mentioned, the last time we’d seen Kenny Omega inside an AEW ring was back on December 5, 2023, wrestling a match against Ethan Page. Shortly thereafter, Omega announced that he’d be stepping away from the ring for a while. Through a shocking yet sudden announcement on social media (X/Twitter), Omega told the wrestling community that he was diagnosed with diverticulitis, a dangerous illness that can cause serious harm to your intestines and death if left untreated.

All plans that were put into motion at that time, which likely included a future AEW World Tag Team Championship run with Chris Jericho and the continuation of his rivalry with the Don Callis family, were put on hold. Fast-forward to the past couple of weeks, Omega provided an update with some great news, stating that he may not need surgery, but he isn’t completely out of the woods just yet. The update was provided by Dave Meltzer from the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, as Meltzer stated:

“
While no decision has been made, it looks more likely than not that Kenny Omega will be getting surgery on his intestines. He’s had his ups and downs but has largely been dealing with a good amount of pain for months now. He said surgery is becoming more and more likely as two different doctors have told him they think it’s the best option. It’s not 100 percent that he will have surgery but it’s looking more likely, particularly if he wants to get into condition to resume his career that he will probably have to get rid of the perforated sections of his intestine and colon.” (

During the April 24 Dynamite, AEW announced that Kenny Omega would be returning next week on Dynamite, which will be taking place in his hometown of Winnipeg to address the wrestling world and provide an update on his current conditioning.

Does Kenny Omega’s Return Interfere With Plans Set In Motion By The Elite?

How The Elite Will Address Kenny Omega’s Return To AEW

  • The Elite and Jack Perry attacked Tony Khan on Dynamite
  • Kenny Omega used to be in The Elite
  • Kazuchika Okada is Kenny Omega’s biggest rival

On Dynamite, The Elite were dead-set on getting Jack Perry reinstated to AEW following his suspension due to the events that took place at AEW All In behind the scenes between him and CM Punk. This, of course, was the focal point of the entire show that led up to the closing segment of the program, as AEW President Tony Khan addressed the situation with Jack Perry face-to-face in the ring. Everything seemed to be going well on the surface, ending with the AEW Chairman welcoming back Jack Perry to the AEW roster and embracing him with a hug. What happened next sent shock waves throughout the wrestling world and all over social media.

Jack Perry and The Elite laid out the AEW Chairman and sent a message out to the AEW roster that they were taking over the company and running the show. Kenny Omega was “removed from The Elite” a month prior by The Young Bucks. With Omega returning, we will likely see a confrontation between the two sides, and it may not be a pretty sight to see. The Elite has grown with the addition of Kazuchika Okada (Omega’s bitter rival) and now Jack Perry. If nothing else, the angle next week may set the table for what could be in store for Omega upon his official in-ring return.

AEW Needs Kenny Omega More Than Ever Before

Kenny Omega AEW entrance

  • Kenny Omega is the franchise player of AEW
  • The Elite vs. Kenny Omega could bring viewers back to AEW

Kenny Omega could be considered as the franchise player for AEW. Through thick and thin, Omega carried the AEW banner and has continued to be the “best bout machine”, despite recent health setbacks. The pending rivalry between The Elite and Kenny Omega will likely be one of the more interesting yet compelling storylines that hopefully will gain more eyeballs on the AEW product during a time when the product is struggling through the negativity and declining ratings and attendance figures. AEW has the ability to gain back viewers and attract a new audience if they play their cards right. This storyline could be the turning point for AEW if done correctly, and we are all excited to see what will happen next!
