Hotel prices rose 10% in March and have seen 34 consecutive months of increases

Hotel prices they rose 10% in March about the same month of 2023, with the Easter every other this year, and accumulate 34 consecutive months of increaseswhile overnight stays in these establishments totaled 24.5 million, 19.1% more.

According to the figures published this Tuesday by the National Institute of Statistics (INE)in the first quarter as a whole, the nights consumed in hotels increased by 12.6% compared to that period in 2023, but it must be taken into account that this year Holy Week fell in March and last, in Aprilso we will have to wait for this month’s data for the comparison to be homogeneous.

The average billing of hotels per occupied room (ADR) was 109.2 euros9.7% more than in March of last year, and the average income per available room (RevPar, which takes occupancy into account and better approximates profitability) reached 69.5 euros, 12.2% more.

British and Germans, in the lead

INE data show how, for another month, travelers from United Kingdom and Germany they concentrated the 22.7% and 19.8%respectively, of the total overnight stays of non-residents in March.

Overnight stays of travelers from France, USA and Italy (the following issuing markets) represented 6.3%, 5.3% and 4.6% of the total, respectively.

In March they covered the 55.1% of the places offered, with an annual increase of 6.8%. The occupancy rate by places on the weekend increased by 3% and stood at 60.8%. Canary Islands presented the higher level of occupancy by places during March (76.6%).

By tourist areas, the south of Gran Canaria reached the highest occupancy rate by places (79.8%), while the south of Tenerife had the highest weekend occupancy (79.9%). The tourist spot with the highest degree of occupancy by places was Teguise (Lanzarote) (81.9%), which also reached the highest occupancy on the weekend (83.2%).

1 star hotels, the most expensive

By autonomous communities and cities, the greatest increase was recorded in Basque Country (22.2%) and the lowest in Ceuta (1.2%). By hotel categories, the greatest price increase occurred in establishments of a star of gold (12.2%), according to the INE.

By category, the average billing per room was 243.4 euros for five-star hotels, 113.3 euros for those with four and 85.8 for those with three. The RevPAR for these same categories was 156.2 euros, 80.1 euros and 55.8 euros, respectively.

According to INE data, the tourist spot with the highest average turnover was Adeje (Tenerife)with 189.2 euros and this Tenerife municipality was also the one that registered the highest average income per room in Spain in March, standing at 169.8 euros.
