The ladies at Today With Hoda & Jenna are always down to try a new internet trend, even if it means that they’ll have to break up to do it.
Hoda Kotb and Jenna Bush Hager were discussing a breakup method called “bless and release” that has become popular per the suggestion of dating coach and TikTok user Lily Womble.
“Here’s how you’re gonna craft yours, ‘Thanks for hanging out’ — if you really feel that way — ‘I’m not feeling a romantic connection and I wish you the best,’” Womble recommended in the video. “The ‘and’ is super important, ‘but’ is limiting, it’s negative. Put an ‘and’ in there!”
The Today co-hosts didn’t appear to agree with this advice. Bush Hager pointed out that telling someone there was no “romantic connection” could feel “like a punch.”
Kotb agreed and decided to take a stab at it herself. “I think it should be something like, ‘Look, Jenna,’” Kotb began as she turned to her co-host.
But Bush Hager cut her breakup off and asked, “Why are you breaking up with me?!”
Kotb laughed as she continued, “You know, my plate’s really crowded at this point in my life and I wish you the best.” She then pointed out, “Because it wouldn’t be crowded if you had a romantic connection, but you don’t, but you don’t need to say that!”
“I totally agree,” Bush Hager said. She added that the word “and” is “helpful” for softening the blow, but it may be necessary to start the breakup on a lighter note.
She and Kotb then took turns making fun of the trend, joking that you could also say, “You give me no vibe and I wish you the best!”
Bush Hager then added, “I’m completely turned off by you and good luck out there!”
The Today hosts have given a lot of dating advice to viewers, whether it be discouraging a viewer from dating a friend’s ex, or urging people to “date all the dudes” while they still can.
