Harvey Weinstein was transferred to Rikers Island Monday night following a report that he was being given cushy treatment while receiving medical care at New York City’s Bellevue Hospital, a source said.
The fallen movie mogul — whose sex crimes conviction was overturned last month — had been in the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit on a different floor from other detainees and treated to special amenities like a phone, a private bathroom and a television, according to The City.
The Monday report “set off” city corrections and “within and hour or two of that being printed it started them contemplating how to move him and when to move him quickly,” a source close to the disgraced movie exec told The Post.
While at the Big Apple hospital, Weinstein was able to watch CNN and other TV shows, as well as stay in close contact with his criminal defense lawyer Arthur Aidala — either by phone or in person, the outlet reported.
The “Pulp Fiction” producer was transferred to the public hospital just hours after he was relocated from a New York prison to Rikers on April 27 following his conviction reversal.
The move came after Weinstein complained he had chest pains and was eventually diagnosed with pneumonia, according to the report, which noted his lawyers said he had a slew of other health problems.
“He’s a sick man,” Weinstein lawyer Donna Rotunno told the outlet. “Harvey has multiple health issues and he’s never gotten the level of care that he received prior to going into custody.”
Weinstein’s prison consultant Craig Rothfeld confirmed that the disgraced producer has been taken back to Rikers Island following a decision made by the medical staff of New York City Health + Hospitals (NYC H+H).
Rothfeld said he doesn’t have any updates about Weinstein’s health but said they are confident his condition is being closely monitored and he’s being properly cared for by the Department of Corrections and Community Supervision, Correctional Health Services and NYC Health and Hospitals.
But the source said Weinstein, 72, is “actually not doing well. He has real medical issues. The care is much better at Bellevue than Rikers.”
“He’s a detainee but he should be considered as if he never had a trial here and they are treating him like a hardened criminal,” the source said, adding that Weinstein was unhappy about the transfer.
The New York Court of Appeals on April 25 reversed Weinstein’s conviction and 23-year sentence for rape and criminal sex act, finding that the trial judge made a series of bad calls during trial that deprived the ex-Miramax honcho from getting a fair shake.
The Manhattan District Attorney’s Office has said it plans to retry Weinstein which could go forward as early as the fall.
Weinstein is not eligible to be released on bail as he was separately sentenced in 2023 to 16 years in prison in Los Angeles for raping an Italian model a decade earlier.
