An accident occurred on set of the upcoming Eddie Murphy feature The Pickup, resulting in several injuries and leaving two crew members hospitalized.
The Associated Press reports that the Amazon MGM Studios film was shooting a scene on Saturday (April 20) when a truck and a car collided on location outside of Atlanta. The truck reportedly “locked up” and crashed into the car while filming a scene.
According to a studio spokesperson, the scene had already been rehearsed and “all safety precautions were taken” ahead of filming.
Two crew members were hospitalized at the time of the incident, and one remains in the hospital as of Tuesday (April 23). All are expected to make a full recovery.
“It was a completely freak accident,” a source close to production told AP. “It wasn’t even a complicated or dangerous stunt.”
The Pickup also stars Keke Palmer and Pete Davidson. None of the lead stars were reportedly on set when the accident occurred.
A spokesperson for Amazon said they are still looking into what happened during the accident.
“Unfortunately, the sequence did not go as planned and several members of the crew were injured as a result. We are still in the process of gathering facts on what happened and why, but first and foremost our thoughts are with those who are recovering,” the spokesperson said. “The well-being of the entire crew and cast is our first priority, and we will continue to insist on the highest industry standards of safety while filming. All safety precautions were reviewed prior to and monitored during the shoot.”
The International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees said it is also currently looking into the accident.
Per AP, production on The Pickup will not be delayed by the accident. A release date for the Amazon film has not yet been announced.
