Four hunters investigated for the shooting down of several Iberian wolves in León

Four people are being investigated for the downing of several Iberian wolvesa protected species, in the mountains of the Leonese town of Lois.

The investigation is carried out within the framework of the ‘Tendeña’ operation, which began after last December two wolf corpses were found in the Lois mountains after an authorized wild boar hunt had taken place.

Since then, under the direction of the Court of First Instance and Instruction of Cistierna and in coordination with the Environment and Urban Planning Prosecutor’s Office, components of the Seprona of the Civil Guard of LionEnvironmental Agents and Environmental Guards of the Territorial Environmental Service of the Board have worked in a coordinated manner for the clarification of these facts.

Thus, they learned that four hunters were allegedly related to the killing of wolves, a species included in the List of Species under Special Protection Regime.

The facts would constitute a crime against the protection of fauna, regulated in article 334 of the Penal Code, punishable by prison sentences of six months to two years or a fine of eight to twenty-four months and, in any case, special disqualification for profession or trade and special disqualification from the exercise of the right to hunt or fish for a period of two to four years.

The authorities are awaiting the results of ballistic tests that are being carried out on the seized weapons, the study of which is being carried out by the Laboratory of the Criminalistics Service of the Civil Guard.

The operation continues, so the authorities do not rule out further actions, and the proceedings carried out, along with the seized weapons and seized effectshave been made available to the Investigating Court of Cistierna (León).
