Filling the tank is already 10% more expensive than in January

He gasoline price continues without respite and a new rise has been noted in a week marked by the festivities of May Day and the day of the Community of Madrid. The liter of super 95 has risen to 1,687 euros, a new high so far this year after 15 weeks of consecutive price increases. This is clear from the data from the EU Oil Bulletin, published this Thursday.

The continued rise in prices has brought the cost of refueling with 95 gasoline to reach a new high in the last six months. Filling a tank with an average capacity (45 liters) now costs 76 euros10% more than the price paid when 2024 began (69 euros).

Instead, the price of diesel oil followed the opposite path and moderated again. Diesel has fallen for two weeks and the price stands at 1,542 euros, just 3.2% above the level registered on January 1 of this year. The price of gasoline is already 9.5% higher than that of diesel and the price gap between both fuels is at its highest since July of last year. lFilling a tank with diesel now costs 69.38 eurosjust two euros more than at the start of the year.

The increase in the price of gasoline occurs despite the fact that raw material costs (the barrel of Brent oilin the case of Europe) have been reduced in the last weeks. The price of a barrel of Brent surpassed the threshold of $90 on April 16, but on May 2 it had fallen to $84. However, it cannot be ruled out that gasoline prices will begin to fall in the coming weeks.

Oil prices had skyrocketed in recent months due to a combination of factors, including a higher demand than expected, production cuts in OPEC+ countries and the geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, a strategic region for the crude oil business. However, they had been reduced in recent weeks after it was learned that US supplies are greater than expected, which reduces tensions on supply.
