Erick Rowan Has Re-Signed With WWE

Highlights

  • Erick Rowan has reportedly re-signed with WWE after four years away.
  • There have been rumors Rowan would be returning after he canceled his upcoming independent dates.
  • The belief is that Rowan will be a part of whatever Uncle Howdy has been teasing for the past few weeks.

The wrestling world was left in shock last year when Triple H shared the heartbreaking news revealing Bray Wyatt had passed away at the age of just 36. After taking time off due to illness, there were rumors Wyatt was potentially almost well enough to return to the ring. Despite his passing, there have been rumblings his name will live on through those he was closest with, and we seem to be on the cusp of that manifesting very soon, especially now Erick Rowan has re-signed with WWE.

That’s according to PWInsider Elite (via Cultaholic) which has reported Rowan has re-signed with WWE following weeks of speculation that the released Superstar might be coming back, possibly so he can be a part of whatever Wyatt homage the promotion has planned. On top of the teases that Uncle Howdy will be back on WWE TV soon, and potentially be bringing others with him, Rowan canceled all of his upcoming independent dates, more or less confirming he had signed with a major promotion.

The mystery of the pet inside Erick Rowan’s cage turned out to be nothing more than a spider.

What remains unclear is when exactly we will see Rowan back in WWE. The Howdy teasers have been ramping up and appearing on basically all WWE programming, even NXT. The assumption is that Howdy will be the leader of a new Wyatt family made up of old Wyatt Family members. Rowan and Braun Strowman will likely be a part of it, especially since The Monster Among Men returned to TV during the draft, and there’s an outside chance Alexa Bliss has a role to play of she’s ready to return.

Rowan stuck with the late Luke Harper after splitting from The Wyatt Family during his initial WWE run and eventually became Daniel Bryan’s bodyguard. One of the last things he did before his release was use a giant fake spider to torment people and yes, it was as bad as it sounds. Drew McIntyre eventually killed that spider, so The Scot should watch his back whenever Rowan does show up. That said, I would rather the spider era of Rowan’s career was erased from history.

Rowan has been wrestling as Erick Redbeard since his WWE release, even making a few appearances in AEW. The former Tag Team Champion wrestled two matches there after making a cameo appearance during the Harper/Brodie Lee tribute show. As for the potential Wyatt homage in WWE, if done right, this could be something really special. With Rowan and Wyatt’s own brother involved, I’m confident whatever we’re about to see will be fitting of Wyatt’s memory.
