Enrolled students have increased by 32.6% in five years

Vocational Training (FP) gains weight year after year and is increasingly consolidating itself as an educational alternative chosen by young people. In just five years, the number of students enrolled in some vocational training cycle has increased by 32.6%, reaching 1,083,963 students enrolled in the 4,022 centers distributed throughout the national territory last academic year 2022-2023. .

According to the latest data published this Monday by the Ministry of Education, the majority of students – 65.7% – are enrolled in public schools. The statistics also reveal that the greatest increase in enrollment in recent years has occurred in the cycles of Higher Degree, which in that period of time have experienced an increase of 41.9% of students.

The Intermediate Grade has also gained strength, with an increase of 26.8% in the last five years; while the student body in Basic Grade has grown by 9%. However, the Basic Degree continues to be the one with the largest number of students (78,674), followed by the Higher Degree (565,851), the Intermediate Degree (436,438) and the Specialization Courses (4,296).

By sex, the distribution of vocational training students is quite balanced in most cycles and more uneven in the Basic Grade, where seven out of ten students are men; and in the Specialization Courses, with 84% men.

The proportion also varies depending on the professional families: in Personal Image, Sociocultural Services, Textile, Clothing and Leather, Administration and Management and Health, for example, they are the clear majority. However, in other branches such as Installation and Maintenance, Transportation and Vehicle Maintenance, Electricity and Electronics, Extractive Industries, Mechanical Manufacturing or Energy and Water, male students are the majority.

In global terms, the professional families with the greatest weight in the students are Health; IT and Communications; Administration and management; Electricity and electronic; Sociocultural and Community Services; Commerce and Marketing; and Transportation and Vehicle Maintenance.

The access age for all levels of FP is young. between 16 and 21 years old. Although the average varies somewhat from one to another, it must also be taken into account that, for example, for the Higher Degree you must have previously completed an Intermediate Degree or Baccalaureate. Thus, in the Basic Grade, the most common entry age is 16 years (47.3%); while in the Middle it is between 16 and 17 years old (21 and 23.9%, respectively); and from 18 to 21 years old in Higher Education (60.5%).

Regarding the students enrolled in the new Dual FP, already taught in 1,501 centers in Spain, the figure of 53,385 students was reached last year, with the majority enrolled in the Higher Degree (34,106), followed by the Intermediate Degree (18,195), the Basic Degree (1,042) and the Courses of Specialization (42). This modality is taught in 1,501 centers.
