Carlton vs GWS, Jacob Weitering corky injury, Zac Williams achilles, Patrick Cripps, Sam Walsh

Carlton has bounced back in style, pulling off a 19-point win over the previously undefeated GWS Giants at Marvel Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The win comes with some injury concerns for the Blues, with defender Zac Williams subbed off after suffering an Achilles knock and Jacob Weitering also looking to have received a cork to his leg.

Despite Williams being removed from the match, Weitering continued to play after half time, holding up his side’s defence to restrict the Giants to just two goals in the second half.

Blues skipper Patrick Cripps starred after collecting a whopping 38 disposals, with sidekick Sam Walsh also having 35 disposals himself.

Meanwhile, Charlie Curnow and Harry McKay booted three goals each to skyrocket their side to victory.

It wasn’t all that easy for the Blues however, as they were down by two goals at the main break, before coughing up five Giants goals in the third term.

But, the tide turned when the Blue tsunami came rolling in, piling on 10 second half goals to record their fifth win from six outings in 2024.

It came with eight unanswered goals.

“The way we fought in that third quarter, led by this man (Cripps) in the middle, really set the tone for us,” Walsh said on Fox Footy post match.

“We just talked about getting a bit more proactive,” Cripps added.

The Blues now take a 5-1 record into round seven, when they’ll face Geelong at Marvel Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

But Walsh says they’re not phased with the challenge the mature Cats present.

“The best thing with our weeks at the moment is we’re just consolidating a bit of our identity at the moment, Vossy speaks about it a bit,” Walsh said.

“I think the ability to keep fronting up, the nature of being a top team in the comp.

Meantime, the Giants will reset and take on Brisbane at Manuka Oval.
