The river Slaney in Tullow

A man is to appear before Kilkenny District Court today following an incident in which a woman ended up being rescued from the river Slaney.
The 50-year-old woman was rescued from the river and a 56-year-old man was arrested at the scene in Tullow Co Carlow.
The incident occurred in the Town Park area of Tullow at around 8pm on Sunday.
Gardai rushed to the scene and the woman was pulled to safety from the water.
The man was arrested under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 at the scene of the incident. He was taken to a garda station in the south-east.
In a statement gardai said: “Gardaí were alerted to an incident of alleged assault in Townparks, Tullow, Carlow on the evening of Sunday 5 May at approximately 8pm.
“A female, aged 50 years was taken from the water and a man, aged 56 years was arrested at the scene. He was detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 at a Garda station in the South East of the region.
“He has since been charged and is due to appear before Kilkenny District Court at 10.30am.”
