A RESIDENTIAL and daycare facility in Bagenalstown for elderly people has just been shortlisted for two gongs in the Irish Healthcare Awards.
St Lazerian’s House, Bagenalstown has been nominated in two categories – Residential Home of the Year and Healthcare Team of the Year. It is up against four other contenders in the first category and six in the second.
The facility has up to 18 people living independently there, while it also runs a meals-on-wheels service and a daycare centre that’s open every Tuesday and Thursday.
“It is a huge achievement for us to be shortlisted and a great recognition of the services we provide to our residents and the community of Bagenalstown and surrounding towns and villages. And who knows, we may even bring home the overall accolade?” said manager Lisa Murphy.
The ethos behind that residential unit is the promotion of independent living, while also giving the residents any supports they may need.
The daycare centre provides much-needed company and conversation for the service users as well as lunch, refreshments, bingo, music, yoga and Mass.
St Lazerian’s House was shortlisted for the awards after Lisa supplied the competition with glowing testimonials from past and present families who use its services as well as submitting up-to-date HIQA reports.
“Our last two HIQA reports were excellent, so that’s a testament to all the work that our staff do for our residents. If we bring home an award, that’s great, but at least we’ve been recognised for our work,” said Lisa.
The Irish Healthcare Awards ceremony will be held on Friday 10 May in the Royal Marine Hotel, Dún Laoghaire, Dublin.
