JOHN ‘Shark’ Hanlon has confirmed that Hewick will travel to Auteuil for another shot at the French Champion Hurdle on Saturday 18 May.
Hewick ran in the race last year and finished fourth Theleme, Hermes Baie and Klassical Dream and with none of those horses entered this time around, Hanlon is dreaming of flying the tricolour in France.
Last time out in the Punchestown Gold Cup, Hewick ran a huge race to finish in third behind high quality duo Galopin Des Champs and Fastorslow.
“Punchestown, the ground was lovely in it but we’d rather it was faster. I think he’s a lot better horse on good, fast ground. We probably won’t get that in France but we were fourth in it last year and it’s for a lot of, a lot of money. I think the first three horses that beat us last year are not around he was 20 lengths clear of the fifth horse. He’s in great form and we’ll give him one more run, he’s lightly raced this year,” said Hanlon.
