Carlow Nationalist — Gardaí searching for woman assaulted in Carlow town

LOCAL gardaí are searching for a woman who was assaulted in Carlow town and are appealing for her to contact them as soon as possible.

They are also looking for the public’s assistance about the assault on the woman, which happened in broad daylight at around 11am on Thursday 2 May at The Downs housing estate, Pollerton Road, Carlow. The incident occurred on the main access road in The Downs from the Pollerton Road.

During the incident, a young man was behaving aggressively towards a woman and ultimately assaulted her. The man is between 25 and 30 years’ old, 6ft in height with brown hair with a “step” cut. He was wearing a blue jacket with a white emblem on the left breast and left sleeve, and a dark grey tracksuit bottom.

The young woman is between 16 and 20 years’ old and  5’6” in height. She had long blonde hair brushed to the front and was wearing a navy sleeveless anorak with the hood up over a beige baggy jumper.

The gardaí want to identify the man and the woman to ascertain her safety.

Superintendent Anthony Farrell said: “This is an isolated incident that occurred in broad daylight in a large residential area in Pollerton. We have concerns about the girl involved in this incident and are trying to reach out to her to see that she is okay. Maybe you were passing the area at the time and saw someone unusual or, indeed, witnessed the incident. Enquires so far have not identified either person. If you have any information that would support this identification, An Garda Síochána Carlow would appreciate a call on 059 9136620. Indeed, if you are the young woman who was assaulted, please have the confidence and trust to come forward and let us know you are okay.”
