He Barcelona’s town hall will close the Sant Felip Neri square during schoolyard hours to give exclusive use for children of the Sant Felip Neri School Institute and harmonize the uses of this space. This is established by a decree that was published this Wednesday in the BOPB and that will be definitively approved once the regulatory 20 days of public exposure have passed.
Specifically, it establishes that the restriction of passage will be carried out Monday to Friday in the time slots ranging from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. The temporary measure will last the entire 2024-25 academic year, including July, when the summer camp takes place. In addition, it will be extendable until the end of the expansion and adaptation works of the educational center.
Closing of two accesses
The school may close the entrances to Sant Felip Neri Street and Montjuïc del Obispo Street. allowing passage to residents and workers to their jobs, to the worship center or to the public establishments located in the square. The school may delimit the space with fences or other elements while the space is being used and always within the stipulated hours.
The Sant Felip Neri School Institute already uses the square exclusively Frederic Mares as a school recreation area for secondary school students, and used the Sant Felip Neri square for the first time as a school playground in 2018, from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. In November 2019, it also expanded its use from 1:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
During the pandemic, this exclusive use was extended to the entire school schedule and throughout the school year but, once normality was recovered in the restrictive measures due to Covid-19, a provisional schedule was established from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., which is now adjusts to midday timeand which is carried out by mayoral decree that can be extended until the completion of the expansion and adaptation works of the San Felipe Neri School Institute.
