The Mossos d’Esquadra have dismantled a criminal gang that allegedly defrauded 250,000 euros in a “massive scam” to various insurance companies in the Barcelona region of Vallès Oriental (Barcelona)they reported in a statement this Monday.
The alleged fraudsters took out around 5 policies for the same property, caused damage and communicated this to the companies, collecting the compensation corresponding to each one. This scam affected up to 19 companies with whom they contracted 39 policies.
In one case, the leader of the organization rented a place in Lliçà d’Amunt (Barcelona), which assured with up to 9 different companies and of which he collected 9 compensation to repair the damage to the parquet that had caused a flood, caused by a accident done on purpose.
In total, the group repeated its modus operandi in various premises and homes in the Barcelona towns of Canovelles, Lliçà d’Amunt, Parets del Vallès and Santa Eulàlia de Ronçana.
After a year of research by insurance companies and several private detectives, on April 29 the Mossos arrested 7 people, including the architect of the scams, an expert by profession and linked to the insurance field.
