Malcolm Brogdon recovering from thumb surgery

Washington Wizards guard Malcolm Brogdon is recovering from surgery for a torn ligament in his right thumb, the NBA team announced Tuesday.

He sustained the injury during Saturday’s practice in Montreal and underwent the procedure on Tuesday in New York. His recovery status “will be updated as appropriate,” the Wizards said.

Brogdon, 31, was traded in July from the Portland Trail Blazers to the Wizards, his fifth NBA team. Washington will open the 2024-25 season on Oct. 24 at home against the defending champion Boston Celtics.

Brogdon was the NBA Rookie of the Year with the Milwaukee Bucks in 2016-17 and the Sixth Man of the Year with the Celtics in 2022-23.

He has career averages of 15.4 points, 4.7 assists and 4.2 rebounds in 439 games (283 starts) with the Bucks (2016-19), Indiana Pacers (2019-22), Celtics and Blazers. –Field Level Media
