I-70 closed in both directions near Idaho Springs, again

For the second time this week, Interstate 70 is closed in both directions near Idaho Springs as crews work to remove loose and unstable rock from walls above the interstate.

The interstate is closed between Exit 240 for Colorado 103 near Idaho Springs and Exit 248 for Beaver Brook and Floyd Hill, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation.

Traffic is being held for “rock scaling” as crews remove loose and unstable rock from the mountainous slope bordering the interstate to reduce the risk of rockfalls, CDOT officials said.

I-70 previously shut down for several hours between the same exits for rock scaling on Monday.

Drivers should take alternate routes where possible and expect delays in the area, CDOT officials said.

This is a developing story.
