Andorra la Vella“We want to review the entire text and from here we will decide if we support the association agreement”. The consul of La Massana and member of the executive of Ciutadans Compromesos (CC) Eva Sansa has made it clear that “we are with the Democrats, but we are Committed Citizens”. It will be the Massanen party that supports or not the text. The position has not been too well received by some members of the Government majority who consider that CC is distancing itself from the agreement when they are supposedly aligned with Democrats, in favor of the text, since 2019. In the first generals of Xavier Espot a coalition was formalized which was renewed in 2023.
Sansa stated, in an interview with ATV, that “possibly” support the agreement, but that they should look at it first. The consul stated that there are doubts that must be resolved before taking a position. They will meet with the Secretary of State for European Affairs Landri Riba so that he can resolve some issues.
A new show of distancing
The discourse of Ciutadans Compromesos has clearly changed because the support for the association agreement had always been explicit and shared with the Democrats. Part of the democrats do not see with good eyes the dynamics in which the Massanenc party has entered. They link it to the very strong opposition of the majority of CC ‘barons’ to housing measures. They criticize the temporary expropriation of flats or trying to reduce foreign investment to a symbolic element. The Barons of Massan have an important representation in a large part of the associations that made a manifesto against the Government for its policies on housing.
The second element that some democratic members put on the table is the flirtation of the Massanen group with the new right-wing party that is being formed. DA don’t forget that in 2015 Massana left the coalition led by Toni Martà when Josep Pintat became leader of the Liberals. CC has never hidden that it is a pure right-wing formation, much more biased than the Democrats.
Right-wing party
Ciutadans Compromesos is one of the first doors they knocked on from the group where a right-wing party is being considered. People related to the Massanec group have participated in meetings and have publicly expressed their displeasure with the policies of the executive. The Democrats, according to the sources consulted, have noticed the flirtation. Nor has it gone unnoticed the great difference in how the Democratic councilors and those of Committed Citizens reacted to the Cierco proposal for an amnesty.
All of this has led to a certain mistrust between the two parties. Most of the councilors from Massa have had to endure a lot of pressure and the occasional fierce attack by people from CC who are obviously critical of the Government. The distance they now place with respect to the agreement with the EU is just another step in the new scenario of a coalition with an uncertain future.
