The president of Castilla-La Mancha, the socialist Emiliano García-Pagespoke out this Saturday about the latest criticism leveled by the PSOE leadership at the judicial system in the face of cases that encircle the party and the Government. “It is legitimate to think about it and, if you think that way, to fight it, but I think that It is preferable not to occupy that role of victim“, he advised in statements to journalists from the 41st Federal Congress in Seville.
Page, one of the territorial leaders more critical with the current socialist leadership, has not attended the start of this socialist conclave during the morning of this Saturday, but has gone to the place during the afternoon, after a meal with the general secretary of the PSOE and president of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, and other ‘barons’ of the party.
From the PSOE Congress, Page has added that “victimhood is always the last resort of any political projectI think about it from the bottom of my heart. And not only is it the last resort, but victimhood can also have some understanding when it is preceded by a huge dose of self-criticism,” he added.
In this context, Page has also said that the Spanish “would see it well if at some point the PSOE could say outwardly that in some things” you can be wrong: “That would also give credibility to all the unfounded accusations that are being made against us.”
Moncloa and the email leak
On the other hand, the Castilian-Manchego president has also referred to Moncloa’s role in the leaking of emails from Isabel Díaz Ayuso’s boyfriend that has caused the resignation of the former general secretary of the PSOE of Madrid, Juan Lobatoand his subsequent statement before the Supreme Court. Page has wished that “everything is clarified” and has stressed that he hopes that “there is nothing to feel ashamed of.”
Regarding whether he would put his hand in the fire for Moncloa, he has been forceful: “I don’t know if you know that no one has ever passed that hand in the fire test. It is not advisable to put your hand in the fire, you will burn for sure“he said.
“Of course, I do not wish anything bad even to the opposition in judicial terms, at least not to my party,” added Emiliano García-Page.
In any case, Page has insisted on defend the “political capacity” of Juan Lobato “beyond the circumstances”, lamenting that national politics “is a meat grinder.” “We are destroying political capital by leaps and bounds,” the socialist has complained.
Finally, Page has defended that yes, would like to see Lobato as leader of the Madrid PSOE after his resignation, although he has said that “that depends on him”: “I don’t get involved in any other federation, nor do I want them to get involved in mine.”
Against the agreements with Junts
In his argument, Page has again publicly criticize the agreements with EH Bildu and Juntsa party that he has defined as “extreme right, pro-independence and in some aspects xenophobic”, at the same time that he has questioned the insults to the PP because, as he has said, “insults do not give votes.”
The Castilian-Manchego president has also spoken about the 41st Federal Congress of the PSOE, highlighting that His greatest concern has to do with the debate of ideas and more specifically about the unique financing for Catalonia.
In this context, Page has disfigured that The agreement between the PSC and ERC has not been discussed for Catalonia to leave the common financing regime: “It is something that the PSC has signed, but the PSOE is not going to reaffirm it, it is not going to validate it. That is not proposed. And the Socialist Party of Catalonia itself has not presented amendments regarding financing”.
