Andorra la VellaThe Traffic Technical Board has validated this Friday the various special traffic devices, worked on by the Mobility area together with the other special bodies, in view of the winter season, when there is a maximum influx of vehicles in the country The purpose of the devices is to promote the flow of traffic during peak hours as well as to be able to inform the entire population properly and in advance of possible traffic incidents and snowfall forecasts.
The Puríssima bridge marks the beginning of the peak season for the influx of vehicles, and with the aim of maximizing flow, Mobilitat will activate the device at the entrance to the CG1 in Sant Julià de Lòria – on public holidays and on Saturdays – between November 30 and April 21. This device enables a double lane in the north direction on Francesc Cairat avenue and thus allows two entrance roads from the border to the center of the country’s first parish. As a device to provide fluidity in the operation leaving the bridge, and also during the winter dates, a double lane will be enabled in the south direction between the Comella roundabout and the Margineda roundabout on Sundays and public holidays from December 1 and until April 21. In addition, and coinciding with the peak times when vehicles descend from the ski slopes, the Circulation Service of the Commune of Canillo also plans to promote special devices on the CG2 general road.
When the forecast for the entry of vehicles, during the Puríssima bridge, between December 5 and 8, the arrival of 58,100 vehicles is expected, of which 43,400 would come from the Spanish-Andorran border and 14,700 from the French border. Specifically for the 5th and 6th of December, moments of the beginning of the bridge in Spain while Andorra is working, the head of the Mobility Area, Dani Boneta, has recommended the reduction of internal travel and has emphasized the need to promote telecommuting, as far as possible. In fact, between December 5 and 8, more than 200 personnel will be mobilized daily between the Police, Communal Traffic Services and Mobility with the realization.
For the entire season with a high influx of vehicles, citizens are advised to plan their journeys in advance and follow the information provided in real time through social networks by the Mobility area.
Beyond the Puríssima bridge, it has also been reported that between December 20 and January 6, Christmas dates, 234,200 vehicles are expected to enter Andorra. Going into detail, on the Hispano-Andorran border it is estimated that around 151,500 vehicles entered the country, while on the Franco-Andorran border around 82,700. Regarding the forecasts for Holy Week of 2024, between April 16 and 21, an estimated entry of 79,500 vehicles, of which 52,000 would enter through the border with Spain and 27,500 through the French border.
Finally, and for the rest of the winter season beyond the indicated dates already mentioned, the highest influx of vehicles is expected between February 8 and March 2.
Reinforcement of national public transport
With the intention of continuing to offer the best public transport service, the Secretary of State for Energy Transition, Transport and Mobility has planned the reinforcement of the lines for the winter season. Thus, and since last November 4, the service already incorporates new services and more frequencies corresponding to the high season of use of the service and two more services have been added to the L5 line at times of high traffic. Some timetables have also been adjusted with the aim of reducing waiting times and improving the efficiency of the service.
