The unions UGT and CCOO have decided postpone the strike in passenger transport by road, which began on October 28 and whose next day was scheduled for November 11, given the serious social, personal and material situation generated by the floods in the province of Valencia and in other autonomous communities.
UGT explained this Tuesday in a statement that “the current context makes incompatible any union mobilization initiative in an essential sector such as transportation”, which is why it postpones the planned strike days until a normal situation is restored in the affected areas.
For its part, CCOO has considered that “the serious consequences” that the damage has had for the population, mobility and infrastructure, “the road passenger transport services by bus and self-propelled cranes are essential right now.”
The strike, to demand early retirement for professional drivers, was going to continue on November 11, 28 and 29; December 5 and 9; and, as of the 23rd of that month, it could become indefinite.
The decision to postpone all planned mobilizations “is taken in solidarity with the affected people by DANA in different autonomous communities, with a special impact on the Valencian Community”, they have specified. Right now, citizens and the State “need to have all possible mobility and logistics resources”, so “it would be irresponsible to maintain a strike in the current context,” UGT has added.
In addition, it is worth noting that both unions have called, together with USO and the employers’ associations CEOE, Cepyme and ATA, a 10-minute strike next Friday, November 8. at 12:00 p.m. in all public and private companies to express support and condolences to all those affected by this catastrophe and their families.
