The elected president of the United States, donald trumphas promised this Monday that all Mexican and Canadian goods will be affected by a 25% tariff in retaliation for the flow of drugs and illegal immigration and contemplated another 10% on Chinese products until that country stops the arrival of fentanyl.
As highlighted on his Truth Social platform, one of his first executive orders after assuming power on January 20 will be to sign the necessary documents to apply a 25% tariff to Mexico and Canada on all its products that enter the United States.
That tariff will be in force until what he described as “the invasion” of drugs and undocumented immigrants stops.
“Both Mexico and Canada have the absolute right and power to easily resolve this long-simmering problem. We demand that they use this power, and until they do, it is time for them to pay a very high price!” he said.
Trump added on Truth Social that he has maintained “many talks” with China about the huge amount of drugs, particularly fentanyl, which he highlighted are sent to the United States.
“But it has been in vain. Representatives of China told me that they would institute their maximum penalty, that of death, for any drug dealer caught doing thatbut unfortunately they never fulfilled it and drugs are reaching our country, mainly through Mexico, at levels never seen before,” he said.
Trump therefore stressed that until this flow stops, will impose an additional 10% tariff on Chinaabove any other existing tariff, on all its products that enter the country.
As an electoral candidate, the New York magnate stressed his intention to save jobs in the United States by imposing tariffs of up to 20% on all imported products and 60% for those coming from China, with whom he seeks to intensify the trade war.
Its main objective is the automotive industryand has threatened tariffs of up to 200% on all cars coming from Mexico to discourage Chinese manufacturers from setting up shop in that country.
