Netflix Spain continues to expand its catalog of ‘true crimes’ from recent Spanish crime fiction. A few months ago, the streaming giant launched The body on fire, with Úrsula Corberó and Quim Gutiérrez rescuing what is known as the crime of the Urban Police.

Now, the platform has added to its release calendar The Asunta case, with the Bambú Producciones seal. The six-episode miniseries recovers another media event, the murder of Asunta Basterra, 12 years old, at the hands of his adoptive parents, Rosario Porto and Alfonso Basterra, that shocked all of Spain a decade ago.

It should be noted that, despite being convicted, Rosario Porto and Alfonso Basterra never pleaded guilty and their mother ended up committing suicide in prison in 2020.

This is the official synopsis of the series: “On September 21, 2013, Rosario Porto and Alfonso Basterra report the disappearance of their daughter Asunta, whose body is found hours later next to a road on the outskirts of Santiago de Compostela. Netflix has announced that the series about The Asunta case will finally land on streaming next April 26, promising to become one of the biggest hits of 2024. Let us remember that Netflix has the documentary in its catalog The Asunta case: Operation Nenúfar, also produced by Bambú in 2017, which addresses the crime through testimonies of the parties involved in the case.

Candela Peña and Tristán Ulloa will play Rosario Porto and Alfonso Basterra, but they are not the only stars we find in the credits of the fiction. Next to them are Javier Gutiérrez, Carlos Blanco, María León, Francesc Orella, Alicia Borrachero and Iris Whu, among others.

Filming took place throughout the summer in Galicia. The team moved to Vigo and Santiago de Compostela, the city where the protagonists lived.
