“The Christmas starts today,” proclaimed this Saturday the mayor of Vigo, Abel Knightin its traditional lighting of the Christmas lights that it had on this occasion as protagonist to Valencia. Moments before pressing the starting gun button, the councilor was already announcing that this year would be “different“Thus, Caballero has put aside his usual show to dedicate a heartfelt tribute to all those affected by the DANAalthough without leaving aside the Christmas spirit.
“Our tribute to Valencia, from here we want to send you all our appreciation, respect, solidarity, our pain for the victims that DANA caused. The Christmas tree begins the tribute from Vigo to Valencia“Go ahead!” proclaimed the mayor.
Immediately afterwards, the lighting of the tree has shown the “Forza Valencia” message with the colors of the flag of the Valencian Community. In the background, a version of the community anthem performed by the singer Francisco played.
The solemnity and silence of the thousands of attendees who did not want to miss the beginning of Christmas in Vigo flooded Puerta del Sol and other surrounding streets of the city, which for a few minutes have had a memory for Valencia.
“We wanted to start Christmas with Valencia, because there must be so much pain in solidarity and respect. Surely when we turned on these lights, all of Spain was here,” Abel Caballero later assessed in statements to the local channel Televigo.
After the lighting of the giant Christmas tree, another of this year’s novelties has arrived: a forest of Christmas trees that light up and accompany the main tree following the rhythm of the music and carols.
The soundtrack that will be heard throughout the 420 illuminated streets of Vigo will also feature new songswhich citizens and visitors will be able to discover as the days go by.
