Before planning a trip it is essential have all the documentation in order, starting with our identification document. In the case of Spain, if the trips are national, Spanish citizens only They will have to bring their ID. However, there are other countries to which you can also travel only with said document, without needing a passport.
It is important to know that the identity document must be in force at the time of starting the trip and will not expire during the duration of the trip.
European Union countries
Only by carrying our ID with us, we can travel to all countries that belong to the European Union. As reported by the Ministry of Interiorthese are Germany, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Croatia, Denmark, Slovakia, Slovenia, Estonia, Finland, France, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Czech Republic, Romania and Sweden.
Other countries to which you can travel only with ID
To those of the European Union they add up another fifteen countries: Albania, Andorra, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Vatican City, Georgia, Iceland, Liechtenstein, North Macedonia, Moldova, Monaco, Montenegro, Norway, San Marino, Serbia and Switzerland.
In addition, it must be taken into account that, among them, there are countries that will require that the document have a certain validity. This is the case of Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Iceland, since to travel there we will be asked for the DNI to have a validity of at least three months at the time of traveling.
On the other hand, we must also consider the particular case of United Kingdom. Since leaving the European Union, it is no longer possible to travel there using only your DNI. Although there are some exceptions: “those people who have requested the EU Settlement Scheme will be able to continue using the DNI until December 31, 2025,” the Ministry of the Interior details.
