He Supreme Court will investigate the former minister José Luis Ábalos for possible crimes of belonging to criminal organization, influence peddling, bribery and embezzlement of public funds within the framework of the corruption plot to purchase masks and other medical supplies during the first months of the coronavirus pandemic.
The cause, known as Koldo case by the name of Ábalos’ former advisor who would have been in charge of the corrupt plot, carries more than a year in the National Courtbut when Judge Ismael Moreno found evidence against the former minister, he elevated the investigation to the Supreme Court, due to Ábalos’s legal status. The high court has taken up the case, but before formally charging the deputy, it must ask Congress for permission.
Therefore, the high court will investigate the role that the former minister would have had in the plot, although the rest of the case will continue its course in the National Court.
