Andorra la VellaThe month of October 2024 has been the rainiest in the last five years. At the FEDA Central station, which is taken as a reference for the climate characterization of the country, 154.9 mm of water fell, while the historical average for the month of October is 80.1 mm . The showers have allowed river flows to recover after a few months of drought, since for the first time in the course of this 2024 there has been a positive flow anomaly. From January to September there had been a negative anomaly, with some months exceeding -50%, as happened in August. However, the October rains have turned the trout around because the flow anomaly has been around 40%, approximately.
“We qualify this month as very rainy because it has rained 190% more than usual,” says the technician of the Meteorological Service, Lucia Rivero. This fact has been produced by the atmospheric variety of fronts that have passed through the country, a situation that has led to precipitation in more than half of the days, around 20 mm. The rain has been widespread in all corners of the territory, since for example in the valley of Sorteny and Perafita 200 mm have been obtained and in the station of Soldeu 120 mm.
It had been more than five years since it rained as much in a month of October as this year, given that the last time it precipitated with records similar to those of this 2024 was in 2019, when 181.5 were counted mm. To put that into context, October 2022 saw 48.6 mm, well below the historical average for the month.
