The PSOE agrees to protect the revaluation of pensions in the Constitution and reduce the voting age to 16 years

He PSOE has agreed this Saturday to include in the Constitution the revaluation of pensionsas well as homosexual marriage, the voluntary interruption of pregnancy and gender parity in institutions, to protect these rights and consecrate them against regressive agendas.

It is one of the agreements reached in the working commissions organized within the framework of the 41st Federal Congress of the PSOE, which must approve a political presentation that serves the party of roadmap for the coming years.

According to socialist sources, the work commissions, with more than 6,000 amendments on the tablehave also endorsed placing access to universal public healthcare at the same legal level as the right to education, blocking any attempt to privatize the National Health System, and shielding permanent public ownership of publicly promoted housing.

The socialists also commit to including in the Constitution the right to climate security and drinking water, and “the right of future generations to inherit a healthy and sustainable planet.

Towards self-financing of the Church

Amendments have also been negotiated in which the PSOE conspires to fight corruption forcefully from the penal, administrative, constitutional and police plan, point out sources from the provincial delegations that participate in the meetings.

The framework presentation is committed to repealing the educational agreements signed with the Holy See in 1979 and now, through amendments, the socialists also commit to the “self-financing” of the Church and they emphasize the need to promote reparation for victims of sexual abuse.

Other proposals included reaffirm the republican tradition of the PSOE, while maintaining the constitutional commitment, which includes the parliamentary monarchy.

In other sections, amendments have been agreed to highlight the need to streamline and modernize the administration of Justicereinforce the fight against misinformation and pursue fake news, put limits on anonymity on networks and advocate for the regulation of artificial intelligence.

Promote lowering the voting age to 16 years

On the other hand, PSOE has approved promoting a reform of the Organic Law of the General Electoral Regime (LOREG) to reduce the voting age to 16 years, an old demand of Socialist Youth.

According to Juventudes sources, they have also achieved the “recognition that there is militancy that reflects a republican institutional design” although they admit that “the current constitutional framework” has “remarkably reinforced the progress made in the Second Republic.”
